What should
a letter look like – layout? |
<<Back |
| |
|
- If you can, address it to the person in charge
of recruitment
- If not, address it to the manager
- Always put your full address on the top right
and the company’s full address on the
left of the letter
- Put the date above 'Dear...' or below your address
- Try to find out the name of the person you should write to - ring the company, call in or check their publicity
- If you do know their name, start with ‘Dear
Mr or Mrs or Miss or Ms’ and finish ‘Yours
sincerely’
- If you don’t know the person's name,
begin ‘Dear Sir’ or ‘Dear
Madam’ and end ‘Yours faithfully’
- Use good quality paper – plain white,
A4
- One side of A4 is usually enough, unless
it is a longer letter of application –
this could go to two sides
- Type it on a computer if you can, unless
you’ve been asked to write it
- Use a simple font such as Arial or Times
Roman no smaller than 11 point. If you have
to write the letter, use black ink and try to
write neatly
- Print or type your name below your signature
- Be positive, stick to the point, read it through and don't forget to check your spelling!
KEEP A COPY OF ANY LETTERS YOU SEND….
and your CV
