An apprenticeship is a job or a work placement that
involves taking a qualification (VQ) with a recognised
provider. Local training providers offer a range of
training and work placements.
You can contact the training providers yourself in
the recruitment period given. Training providers sometimes
have open days so check out our events section.
As an Apprentice you would:
- Be employed by a company from day one
- Do VQ level 2 or 3 and technical certificates
- Need to be able to cope with further study
Training will vary as it depends on your skill area
but can be day release, block release and assessment
at work. All apprentices do Functional Skills in ICT, English
and maths.

Foundation Learning (FL) is a personalised learning programme at Entry Level 1 to Level 1. work-based Foundation Learning is called 'Excel' in Calderdale and 'Venture' in Kirklees. It may include:
- Vocational knowledge and work skills, including work sampling
- Skills such as maths, English and IT.
- Employability and personal skills such as team working.
- A learning programme based around your needs
- Gaining recognition or certificates for the skills you learn.
- Lots of support if that is what you need.

Money - How much would I get?
Employed apprentices are paid a wage. From 1 October 2011, the minimum pay
is £2.60 an hour but many employers pay a lot more
than this.
