We have Connexions
Centres in Huddersfield, Halifax and Dewsbury, which
are open to people of all ages, who live or work in
Calderdale and Kirklees. The centres are open to the
public to drop in for information and advice but it
is also possible to make an appointment for an in-depth
interview with an adviser. The centres:
- are well resourced with relevant computer
packages, free Internet access, leaflets, prospectuses
and reference books to assist callers in choosing
a career, a course or in finding a job
- have information on health, housing, leisure, finance, sexual health, volunteering
- hold information local job, apprenticeship, training and
entry level vacancies
- offer 16/17 year olds advice and support in claiming benefits
All our staff are trained and qualified to assist callers and to make sure that they get the help they need. This may mean referring to our specialist staff or to other agencies when we are not able to deal with an issue.
Specialist teams of Personal
Advisers work from each Centre with young people who
are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
The aim is to promote cross team working internally
and with partner agencies to reduce the levels of NEET
and Unknowns. Young people will be assigned a
named
PA. PAs from other
agencies are invited to area team meetings so that PAs
with different specialisms work together to provide
services to young people.
Effective partnership working with local agencies enables correct referrals, thus ensuring a speedy response to client needs. Needs ranging from mental health, addiction, benefits, housing, and child protection, to referrals to education, employment, training and careers guidance, are all catered for.
Multi agency forums meet at each Centre. Their aim is to provide an opportunity for PAs and other professionals working with young people to meet and discuss the services we all offer so that we can improve upon and share our knowledge and expertise with the overall aim of helping young people.
