Male pay (median) has fallen slightly when compared with 2009 in Calderdale (£490.70), is at a similar level in Kirklees (£479.10), has risen slightly in the region (£491.30) and nationally (£534.40). Female pay (median) has fallen slightly when compared with 2009 in Calderdale (£436.40) and in Kirklees (£413.60), has risen slightly in the region (£395.30); nationally it has also fallen slightly (£426.60).

In 2009/10, local school leavers (16 to 18 year olds) working the equivalent of 40 hours a week full-time were paid on average £138.14 a week before tax.

The UK Minimum Wage from October 2011:
16 to 17 year olds (and above school leaving age) is £3.68 an hour
18 to 20 year olds is £4.98 an hour
21 year olds and over is £6.08 an hour

Apprentices under 19 and apprentices aged 19 or over and in the first year of an apprenticeship will be entitled to an apprentice minimum wage of £2.60 an hour.
