In 2006/7, local school leavers were paid on average £163.44 a week before tax. Almost 33% of vacancies paid the national minimum wage.
The rate local school leavers were paid before tax in 2005/6 was £130.27 a week.

The UK Minimum Wage from October 2008:
16 to 17 year olds (and above school leaving age) is £3.53 an hour
18 to 21 year olds is £4.77 an hour
22 year olds and over is £5.73 an hour

Apprentices under 19 and apprentices aged 19 or over and in the first year of an apprenticeship are not automatically entitled to the national minimum wage.
